Rupee closes lower


MUMBAI: The rupee on Tuesday closed at 44.21/22 a dollar, lower from Monday's close of 44.1950/2050, owing to fresh dollar demand from oil corporates and extremely weak equity markets.

In fairly active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit moved in a limited range of 44.1650 and 44.2300.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the U.S. currency at Rs. 44.20 — PTI
