THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala will press the Centre for formation of a southwest railway zone. Kerala Minister for Law M. Vijayakumar told mediapersons on Tuesday that the zone could consist of Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad and Salem railway divisions and the Konkan Railway. The Madurai division could also be added to that. The proposal had already been submitted to the Centre and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had sought a report on it. He said that a monitoring system would be formed in Thiruvananthapuram and New Delhi to track the development of the railways in the State on a permanent basis.
