Government urged to drop port plan

Special Correspondent

PUDUCHERRY: The Forum of Freedom Fighters' Associations of Puducherry has objected to the Government's plan to construct a deep sea port at Thengaithittu near here.

Forum president M. Periasamy alleged that the project would affect the village's fertile land that grows three crops a year.

All-India Congress Committee general secretary V. Narayanasamy has demanded that the project be shifted to some other area. The Government should consider this suggestion in the interest of farmers, he said, adding that the villagers feared loss of residential areas.
