BHUBANESWAR: Switzerland-based noted Odissi dancer and actress Minati Mishra will be conferred the coveted Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja Award for 2006, the highest state honour for her pioneering contribution to performing arts, by the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi. Ten other eminent artistes in the field of dance, drama and music will also be presented the Akademi awards for the year.
Other awardees
They are: Mumbai-based Odissi guru Rabindra Atibuddhi, who trained Hema Malini in Odissi dance, Rabi Narayan Mohapatra of Balasore for Odissi music, Kamal Charan Chel of Angul for Hindustani music, Veena player K. Rama Rao Patra of Ganjam for instrumental music, dramatist Umakant Behera of Bhadrak, actress Sundarmani Devi of Ganjam, folk artistes Narottam Sahu of Sambalpur and Gouraga Charan Roul of Jagatsinghpur, Arjun Charan Samal of Jajpur for light music and Nanda Kishore Singh of Jajpur for lyrics.
