More milestones beckon Tendulkar

Ahmedabad: The longest serving cricketer of modern times, Sachin Tendulkar is all set to play his fifth World Cup. Tendulkar has played 33 matches and 32 innings, beginning from the Benson and Hedges World Cup, 1992 in Australia and New Zealand, and leads the batting aggregate with 1732 runs (59.72) with 12 half-centuries and four centuries.

Talking to The Hindu, Tendulkar, who has played 381 one-day matches, said: "It'll be just another tournament, but with so many teams assembling for the competition, it will be a great atmosphere. I have been to the West Indies twice in 1997 and 2002. It's been five years since my last visit, so I cannot say much about the quality of wickets there."

Tendulkar has been made vice-captain of the team, an appointment that has not gone down well with Kapil Dev. During a TV channel programme, he described the decision as humiliating to the little master.

A record

Tendulkar is the only player in World Cup competition who has won eight Man-of-the-Match awards. The West Indies edition will provide him with a chance to get past Javagal Srinath's 34 appearances and also Wasim Akram's 38 appearances for Pakistan in World Cups.
