In all the works on display, there is tenderness of expression

NEW DELHI: An economist by training, she finally found her vocation in sculpting. Delhi-based sculptor Renu Khandelwal may have taken up art a bit late in life but has more than made up for it by combining her diverse and rich experience of life with her desire to show that all creatures on this planet have an equal right to live.

Renu's ten-day exhibition, "Recent Bronzes", showcasing nine bronze pieces opened at Triveni Art Gallery here on Monday. Pursuing her passion for the past ten years, Renu has created exquisitely crafted human figures, peacocks, ducks and fish for this show. The family and the pivotal role played by women are reflected in various moods. The artist has seen to it that in all her works there is tenderness of expression.

While studying in Mumbai, Renu was a frequent visitor to the Jehangir Art Gallery. She wanted to join the J.J. School of Art but was not sure whether she could do well in life as a professional artist.

After her marriage, Renu settled down in Delhi and it was at Triveni Kala Sangam that she received training from Saroj Jain. "I was born and brought up in Mumbai where the art field is not as big as it is in Delhi. This is my third solo show at Triveni," says Renu, who besides believing in women's emancipation also connects with their emotional strength.
