Recruitment and service rules for their appointment are being framed, says Minister

WITH ASSURANCE: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti inaugurating the Sixth State-level Educational Conference of Art Teachers in Hubli on Tuesday.

HUBLI: The State Government will soon take steps to appoint art teachers in primary and high schools across the State, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti has said.

Inaugurating the Sixth State-level Educational Conference of Art Teachers here on Tuesday, the Minister said recruitment and service rules for appointment of art teachers were being framed.

Mr. Horatti said one among the seven teachers in higher primary schools would be an art or music teacher. There would one art or craft teacher in every high school. Steps had already been taken for filling up posts that had become vacant owing to retirement of 23 art teachers, the Minister said.

He said the Finance Department had already approved the appointment of special teachers in high schools and an order to the effect had been issued in January. Steps were being taken to end the discrimination in pay scales of art teachers.

Since fine arts and extra curricular activities played an important role in the personality development of children, it was decided to give due importance to drawing, music, craft and physical education, the Minister said.

Elaborating on the steps being taken by the coalition Government to improve the education system and streamlining the recruitment process, Mr. Horatti said responsibilities had been fixed on various officials. Erring officials would be dealt with seriously, he said.

K.S. Prabhakar, Commissioner of Public Instruction, and M. Ramachandra Rao, general secretary of the Association of Art Teachers spoke. K.S. Sharma presided over the function, which was held in the presence of Sri Basavalinga Swami of Rudrakshi Math.

R.B. Gadag welcomed the gathering and Vrishabhendraswamy proposed a vote of thanks.
