Over 400 in fray for Council poll

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: After withdrawal of nominations and unanimous election for five seats, over 400 candidates remain in fray for the Council election from local authorities, teachers' and graduates' constituencies.

As many as 280 candidates are in the fray for eight graduates' constituencies as against 78 for six teachers' constituencies. Those seeking election from the 21 local authorities' constituencies number only 56. This is after the five unanimous elections--two each in Ananthapur and Krishna and one in Kadapa from the local bodies.

Poll postponed

Meanwhile, the Election Commission issued a notification postponing the polling to elect 31 members from the Assembly from March 17 to March 22. An election official said the votes would be counted on the same day.
