YSR calls for preference to local candidates while selecting engineers

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday directed AP Transco to put on hold recruitment of engineers until further orders. He said that the Government had recommended that preference be given to local candidates, wherever possible.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the GO 610 was implemented in AP Dairy Development Corporation only. The Chief Minister made a suo motu statement in the Assembly in response to an adjournment notice given by the TRS that GO 610 was not implemented in the Public Sector Undertakings and also the AP Genco and AP Transco.

Dr. Reddy made the statement after the House resumed proceedings after 10-minute adjournment, which stretched to an hour. The TRS members had complained that engineers from Telangana were not recruited in the on going drive to fill up vacant posts.

Wherever possible the Government had recommended that preference be given to local candidates, he said.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the GO was implemented in AP Dairy Development Corporation only. "There will be no problem," he assured TRS members, adding that, as per information provided by the Chief Secretary, there was no such rule for implementing the GO in a PSU.

T. Harish Rao (TRS) reminded Dr. Reddy that the Girglani Commission had recommended its implementation in PSUs also.
