THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a rail bandh on March 5 in protest against the alleged neglect of the State in the Railway budget. BJP State president P.K. Krishnadas told presspersons here on Tuesday that party workers would block trains at select stations to protest against denying the State its due share in the railway sector. Though the Government as well as the MPs representing the State presented projects estimated at Rs. 600 crore to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad before presenting the budget, it was of no help. The State had to be satisfied with an allocation of Rs. 300 crore, of which the Rs. 120 crore allocated for gauge conversion again benefited Tamil Nadu. Salem division had been carved out ignoring the requests of the Government and the MPs. The demand for an exclusive railway zone for the State and the proposal to set up a sleeper unit at Palakkad had been ignored. Though the Garibh Rath was originally announced to run between Thiruvananthapuram and Delhi, now it had been routed to Mumbai.
