Police given six weeks' time to trace cop

Missing after alleged harassment

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday gave the Delhi police six more weeks to find out the whereabouts of a traffic inspector who went missing on January 5 this year, following his alleged harassment at the hands of certain police personnel.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Manmohan Sarin and Justice S. L. Bhayana granted the time to the police when their counsel submitted that the investigating agency required some more time to complete the probe.

The Bench directed the police to submit the probe report to it by April 25, the next date of hearing.

The Court issued the directions on a petition by the son of the traffic inspector seeking directions to the city police to register a case and trace his father.

Inspector Balbir went missing on January 5 when he had gone to a Central Government Health Services (CGHS) dispensary at Shakti Nagar in North Delhi for treatment.

Petitioner Ajay Malik, a resident of Gulabi Bagh in North Delhi, alleged that Delhi Police Commissioner K.K. Paul had subjected his father to mental harassment and certain police personnel had later beaten him up after he challaned the driver of an over-speeding car at the Gandhi Nagar crossing last year in East Delhi.

Malik submitted that the punished driver had threatened his father that he would take up the matter with the Police Chief claiming that he was very close to him.

And the very next day Mr. Paul called him up and humiliated his father at the police headquarters, Malik submitted, adding that later some police personnel had also beaten him up.
