Bishop Anil Couto moves to Jalandhar

NEW DELHI: The Auxiliary Bishop of Delhi Catholic Archdiocese, Bishop Anil Couto, has been appointed the Bishop of Jalandhar in Punjab.

Congratulating him on the appointment, Delhi Catholic Archdiocese Archbishop Vincent M. Concessao said: "Though we are sad to let him go from Delhi, we are happy that he will continue to be in the same ecclesiastical region.''

Bishop Anil Couto will be installed as the Bishop of Jalandhar on April 16. Jalandhar was in need of a Bishop after the Pope accepted the resignation of its incumbent Bishop Symphorian Keeparath, who turned 75 a few months ago.

NSUI campaign for MCD polls

NEW DELHI: The Delhi unit of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) organised a convention here on Monday, launching its campaign for the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections.

All-India Congress Committee general secretary Ashok Gehlot, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma, Member of Parliament Sajjan Kumar and NSUI president Nadeem Javed attended the convention.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gehlot said the youth should be given 50 per cent representation in civic body elections.

New passport centre inaugurated

NEW DELHI: A new District Passport Centre started functioning near the Nehru Place police post in South Delhi on Tuesday. Passport application forms can be submitted there.

A UTI Bank counter has been set up on the premises for preparing bank drafts on the spot. The new passport centre in South Delhi is part of the joint initiative taken by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Delhi police in 2003 to make issue of passports easier.

"Space Fair" at Teen Murti today

NEW DELHI: National Science Day is celebrated every year to mark the discovery of "Raman effect'' by the great Indian physicist C. V. Raman.

To spread awareness of National Science Day 2007, Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators in association with Nehru Planetarium here is organising a "Space Fair" at Teen Murti Marg on Wednesday.

The fair will give visitors a chance to understand various interesting phenomenon of science through do-it-yourself experiments and interactive models.
