Pratibha Patil calls for empowerment of women

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Governor Pratibha Patil has called for empowerment of women through inculcation of a positive attitude for protection of their rights.

She said providing equal opportunities to women would ensure their progress on all fronts and help them contribute to the development of the nation.

Addressing a seminar on "Women's leadership and political participation'' at Rajasthan College here on Monday, Ms. Patil said women were often deprived of their rights because of discrimination in the social and political realms and added that the highest priority should be given to creating awareness on this front.

Education

Ms. Patil also called for special steps for education of girls and maintenance of gender ratio in society.

She pointed out that about 8-lakh women were participating in the Panchayati Raj system of governance across the country at present.
