HKCCI criticises Lalu Prasad

Staff Correspondent

GULBARGA: The Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI) has criticised Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for not conceding the long pending demands of the region in the Railway Budget presented in Parliament on Monday.

The demands included establishment of a railway divisional headquarters here, provision of more funds for a new Bidar-Gulbarga railway line and conversion of the Bagalkot-Yeshwantpur Express into a daily train.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, HKCCI president Umakant Nigudgi, its Secretary A. Brahmajirao and Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee member Raju Bhimalli said that the Railway Budget had also not addressed the problem of imbalances in the development of railway infrastructure in the region.

However, they welcomed the other proposals made in the Railway Budget and said that the slashing of passenger fares for all classes and reduction of the surcharge on second class tickets for superfast trains would help curtail the inflationary tendencies of the economy and help the common man.
