NIZAMABAD: Communist Party of India (CPI) district secretary Gaddam Venkat Reddy has observed that it is high time for taking a decision on the demand for separate Telangana as the issue has turned out to be very sensitive over a period of time.

Giving details of the party's State council meeting held in Hyderabad on Monday, he said the council totally opposed the constitution of the second States Reorganisation Committee, which it believed would stir a hornet's nest. The party also felt that the Centre, apparently to dodge discussion on the demand for Telangana, was proposing the constitution of the second SRC. Expert panel

Everyone was aware that there was no mention of the second SRC in the Common Minimum Programme of the United Progressive Alliance, he said and made it clear that his party would not come in the way of the formation of Telangana.

To thrash out the demand for a separate State, a committee with experts should be appointed fixing a timeframe for a decision, he said.

Based on the committee's report a separate State could be formed, he said.

The State and the Centre need to act immediately on the issue , he suggested.

Attributing the sheer negligence of successive Governments for the backwardness of Telangana after the formation of Andhra Pradesh, he said "Pedda Manushula Voppandam" (Elders' Treaty), Six Point Formula and 610 GO were not met with implementation, resulting in the demand for a separate State.
