Assault on woman condemned

HASSAN: Literary figure Pankaja Gorur here on Tuesday staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office protesting against the assault on Savithriamma by advocates on court premises and also on journalists who went to cover the incident on February 21.

Members from Sri Yoga Narasimha Nava Saksharatha Stree Swa-Sahaya Sangha Gorur also staged a dharna along with Ms. Gorur.

In a memorandum presented to Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Ms. Pankaja stated that assaulting a woman and journalists by advocates is most unfortunate and is condemnable. Stern action should be taken against the advocates who are responsible for this act, she said.

Procession

Ms. Pankaja said they took out a procession in Gorur before coming to Hassan. In Hassan they took out a procession from Hemavathi circle, and called on Savithiramma who is under going treatment at a hospital.

Ms. Pankaja also condemned the attack on journalists and said this was an attack on freedom of the press.
