JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has urged the Centre to release the arrears of Rs.26.13 crore to settle the claims under the crop insurance scheme for last year's kharif crops and open centres for procurement of mustard in the State at minimum support prices. In a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Ms. Raje said the payment under the scheme to farmers in Barmer district was still pending. She requested Mr. Pawar to reconsider the decision to treat the payment of compensation as the State Government's liability. Ms. Raje said the Centre had not sent any guidelines on the procedure for Single Series of Crop Estimate despite the State Government's repeated requests and added that the payment to farmers could not be stopped over the technical issue. She pointed out that the Centre had earlier released payments to farmers on the basis of "double series''. Referring to mustard procurement, Ms. Raje said the Centre should make arrangement for sufficient money for the purpose and open procurement centres. The State Government would render all help in management of procurement, she added.
