"Swift action taken against militants"

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasamy said it was the swift and decisive action of the police that brought to light many activities of militants in Tamil Nadu.

These activities were nipped in the bud, Mr. Veerasamy said.

Joining issue with the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa, he asked how she could speak about the deteriorating law and order situation in the State when she had LTTE supporters on her side.

She had no right to comment on the issue, he said, and added that people wanted to know why she had LTTE supporters on her side. In a statement, Mr. Veerasamy said the Ambattur arms factory, which was set up during the AIADMK regime was unearthed by the DMK Government.

He asked how Ms. Jayalalithaa could forget this and accuse the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam of harbouring and protecting militants.
