Jayalalithaa concerned at fishermen's plight
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa on Tuesday expressed concern over the problems being faced by fishermen of the State.
In a statement, she said, fishermen of Ramanathapuram district were unable to fish in the area owing to the conflict between the Sri Lankan Army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Apprehensions had been raised that fishermen who had failed to return home might have been abducted by the LTTE.
Ms. Jayalalithaa mourned Kaliaperumal, a fisherman belonging to Akkaraipettai, who was shot dead by the Lankan Navy.
Relief announced
The AIADMK would provide Rs. 25,000 to the bereaved family.
