`Malaysian kitchen' to come up in Hyderabad

Visit Malaysia-2007 to mark the 50th independence

HYDERABAD: Malaysian Tourism Department is launching a `Malaysian kitchen' at a restaurant, `Little Penang', in the city to reveal the gastronomic heritage of Malaysia. The investment is made through the Tourism Malaysia's subsidiary, Pempana.

Malaysia's Tourism Minister Datuk Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor told reporters on Tuesday that it was an opportunity to convert the standalone outlet into a chain of outlets across cities like Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore under the `Malaysian kitchen' programme.

Shopper's paradise

Mr. Mansor also announced that Visit Malaysia-2007, marking the 50th year of independence of the country, would be a mega event featuring 240 events, 50 of them being the most exciting ones for tourists. Stating that Malaysia was a `value for money' destination, he said that it was a shopper's paradise.

`Eye of Malaysia', a 60-metre high Ferris wheel providing a panoramic view up to 20-km distance; `Colours of Malaysia' highlighting the multi-traditional society; an international aerospace exhibition and KL international busker festival were among the highlights of the golden jubilee celebrations of the country's nationhood, he said.

Visa procedures were made easy and those coming from Hyderabad would be granted visa on arrival on payment of US $ 20.

Packages

Several airlines were operating cheap flights to Malaysia. Many package tours, including wedding package and honeymoon package, were available to visitors. However, those arriving from Chennai must obtain the visa in advance. He said the country was targeting 24 million tourists by 2010.
