Two more held in cheating case

Police seize four cars, cash from them

CHENNAI:
The State Crime Branch CID on Monday arrested two more persons in the case of alleged cheating of building contractors by Yobu Saravanan. A hunt is on for some others.
Yobu Saravanan, under the pretext of constructing houses for the poor free of cost using foreign funds, is alleged to have entered into an agreement with the contractors and collected Rs.2,000 as deposit for each house. The CB CID arrested him and his friend Rajendran in December last year. The police said T.Soundararajan (50) of Tiruchi was arrested at Triplicane. A car and Rs.2.20 lakh were seized. He handed over to the police another car he had kept hidden. Based on the information provided by him, M.Perumal (43) of Kovilpatti was arrested at Anna Nagar. Two cars, Rs.2.50 lakh and documents relating to property at Ashok Nagar and K.K.Nagar were seized.
Detained under Goondas Act
Anantharaj, who allegedly cheated poor persons by promising to construct houses for them, was on Tuesday detained under the Goondas Act.
