GUNTUR: TDP leaders and workers stopped the Tenali-Secunderabad Inter-City Nagarjuna Express for more than 15 minutes on Tuesday as a mark of protest against non-allocation of funds for railway projects in the Guntur division.
`Hopes dashed'
Party official representative N. Rajakumari led the `rail roko' on the main platform of the Guntur railway station at 1.15 p.m. raising slogans against the Congress and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad. She said that doubling of railway lines between Guntur and Tenali and Guntur and Nadikudi were important and people expected a circular train to be introduced between Vijayawada, Tenali and Guntur. Former Minister J. Pushparaj, former MLA Sk. Ziauddin and other Telugu Yuvatha leaders participated. Former Rajya Sabha member Y. Shivaji said that except for extension of one train from Machilipatnam to Guntur, ordering survey for laying a line from Markapur to Srisailam and running a Garib Rath via this division, no new allocation of funds was madeto take up infrastructure projects. Doubling of Guntur-Nadikudi and Guntur-Tenali sections were very crucial, he opined.SCR Employees Sangh divisional secretary N.K. Krishna Rao said the budget did not make any allocation for improving passenger amenities on platforms and trains.
