HIGH FASHION: A model displaying the Royal Silks of Mysore designed by Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and Promada Devi Wadiyar in Bangalore on Tuesday. Photo: K. Murali Kumar
BANGALORE: Wrapped in glitter, the Bangalore Palace here stood decked up for a Wadiyar show. The Royal House of Mysore had come prepared to unveil its designs in silk. As the models sashayed down the ramp to some wild music, high fashion hit the skies. Scion of the Mysore royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar had his collection lined up with characteristic colours of black, shocking red, pink and blue. From designer saris in silk to cocktail dresses, the variety stood out. With the imposing palace in the background adding to the scale of the stage, the royal splendour of yore was recreated. Russian dancers stole the show during breaks in the sequence, revving up the ramp with their Flamingo dances and Egyptian belly-dancing. During one of the breaks, Mr. Wadiyar himself made a presence with wife Pramoda Devi, a designer. Together they launched a calendar tailor-made for the occasion. Mr. Wadiyar then took on the presenter's role, splashing an audio-visual treat of his Fernhill Palace designing onto the giant screens . He said he had had a design conflict with his wife, and to resolve it, he chose to design the walls, while she took care of the floor. Outside, the guests were still queuing up to join the party.
