Minister R. Ashok in race?
K.V. Subramanya
BANGALORE:
Minister for Health and Family Welfare R. Ashok, who is also Bangalore Urban district in-charge minister, has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner from the Bharatiya Janata Party for the proposed BBMP's Mayor-in-Council post.
According to sources in the BJP, Mr. Ashok has discussed the matter with some of his close confidants. Mr. Ashok also broached the issue of the Mayor-in-Council post at a meeting of the Bangalore North parliamentary constituency BJP workers' meeting a fortnight ago, party sources told The Hindu on Tuesday.
According to the sources, Mr. Ashok is of the view that he has a better chance of winning the election as nearly 40 per cent of the area under the BBMP falls under his Uttarahalli Assembly constituency.
