NEW DELHI: Former BJP Member of Parliament Lal Behari Tiwari's resignation from the primary membership of the party became a more complicated affair on Tuesday with the three-time MP claiming that he had not withdrawn his resignation submitted to party president Rajnath Singh. Stating that he had resigned due to non-inclusion in the BJP State MCD election committee, Mr. Tiwari said the statement issued by the Delhi BJP office on Monday claiming that he had withdrawn his resignation was "totally incorrect, false and mischievous". Mr. Tiwari, who submitted his resignation on Sunday, had met Mr. Rajnath Singh for 20 minutes on Monday. During the meeting, he told the party president that he had been with the party since 1965 and had represented East Delhi that had an electorate of 32 lakh and 20 Assembly segments on three occasions. The BJP leader, who was jailed for 19 months during the Emergency, said he found his non-inclusion in the panel very "insulting", especially as all the other former MPs had been included in it. He said Mr. Rajnath Singh told him that he would review the matter and get back to him. Mr. Tiwari said Poorvanchal and Uttaranchal were not adequately represented in the BJP MCD election committee despite constituting a third of the population of Delhi. The Delhi BJP office had on Monday claimed that Mr. Tiwari had withdrawn his resignation following his meeting with Mr. Singh. It said: "He told [us] that he is a fully committed and honest soldier of the BJP and in future also he will continue to serve the party with full dedication." But a day later, the statement appeared to lack substance.
