Police encounter near Vaddipalli

IN GRIEF: Wailing wife of Bhanukota Kistappa, Bhoolaxmi, a Congress MPTC member, on way to the General Hospital at Anantapur on Wednesday.

ANANTAPUR: A notorious criminal allegedly involved in several murder and robbery cases in Anantapur district and in the neighbouring areas of Karnataka and an accused in the 1997 Jubilee Hills car bomb case B. Kistappa (45) was killed in an encounter with the police near Vaddipalli of Atmakur mandal in the district late on Tuesday night.

According to the police, Kistappa, a native of Bhanukota village in Kanganapalli mandal and considered a follower of G. Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri, was the second accused in the car bomb blast case aimed at Paritala Ravindra. However, he had been eluding the police all these years.

Acting on specific information, a special party of the police surrounded him at a hideout and asked him to surrender.

But, he opened fire on the police and in retaliation, was shot dead. A revolver was also found from the site of encounter.
