HASSAN: A large number of people staged a dharna in front of a school in Belur on Tuesday demanding action against a teacher who allegedly beat a child studying in UKG on Monday. The dharna was withdrawn only after an assurance from the principal that the teacher would be relieved from duty. Sneha, daughter of Shive Gowda, is studying in UKG. Her teacher, Rashmitha, asked students to draw the picture of an apple. But Sneha was unable to draw the figure. Enraged by this, the teacher allegedly hit Sneha on her hands and back. According to her father, Mr. Shive Gowda, who is also a teacher, Sneha couldn't sleep the whole night and was crying. In the morning they found that the child had weals on her hands and back. On Tuesday morning, Sneha's parents, accompanied by other residents, went to her school. When they brought this incident to the notice of the principal of the school, he did not respond. When he was gheraoed by the residents he apologised and assured them that the teacher would be relieved from duty.
