Call for release of farmers

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) State executive committee has called for release of farmers held during a protest in front of the Tiruvallur collectorate.

The farmers, who rear goats and cows, said their livestock had been hit by disease. Last year in June and July, they had lost livestock worth Rs. 8 lakh. Despite bringing it to the notice of the district administration and the State Government, no action had been taken. Hence, the farmers resorted to a protest on Wednesday morning.
