Debate increase in Defence outlay

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Economist Vinod Vyasalu has said that "there is an increased Defence outlay in the budget. We have become the world's biggest purchasers of arms and a public debate is needed in this regard.

"The 2007-2008 budget is an anti-inflation budget and there is nothing special about it.

"Though the Finance Minister has increased the allocation for health and education, it has to be seen how the State governments devolve the money to the local bodies."
