BANGALORE: The death of a 10-year-old boy in a road accident on Hosur-Lashkar Road in Adugodi police station limits triggered protest by residents of Aneplaya and Lakshman Rau Nagar slum on Wednesday.

Traffic was thrown out of gear in Adugodi, Koramangala, Bannerghatta Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road and adjoining areas for over three hours as the angry public blocked the busy Hosur-Lashkar Road at Anepalya junction, demanding better facilities for pedestrians.

The police said that around 11 a.m. a goods vehicle knocked down two pedestrians, Shanthi (20) and Zakir (10), near Anepalya junction on Hosur-Lashkar Road that connects Brigade Road and Adugodi.

While Zakir died on the way to a private hospital in Wilson Garden, a seriously injured Shanthi is battling for life at NIMHANS. The two were residents of Lakshman Rau Nagar slum.

The protesters urged the senior police officials to provide a road hump and pedestrian crossing at Anepalya junction. Pedestrians are at a disadvantage as vehicles move with great speed on this road, they said.

The protesters dispersed after Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East) M. Abdullah Saleem visited the spot and assured them that their demands would be fulfilled.
