No one can be more authentic to talk about exploitation in the healthcare sector in the State than Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy. At a function in Kannur organised in connection with the presentation of an award for a medical practitioner who has distinguished himself for his selfless medical service, the Minister sought to trace the exploitation in healthcare system in the State to the public mindset about the medical profession. She told the audience that when 500-odd students had been asked in a school assembly what they wanted to become, nearly all of them expressed their wish to become doctors. When asked why, all of them said that they could make lot of money, the Minister said. This attitude was responsible for the unhealthy situation prevailing in the health sector, she observed.
