dated March 2, 1957: Israel to pull out

Israel on March 1 announced plans for "full and prompt withdrawal from the Sharm el Sheikh area and the Gaza Strip." Mrs. Golda Meir, Israeli Foreign Minister, told the UN General Assembly that her Government proposed that "a meeting be held immediately between the Chief of Staff of the Israeli defence army and the Commander of the UN Emergency Force in order for the UN to take over its responsibilities in the Sharm el Sheikh area. Israel is making a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in accordance with the General Assembly resolution of February 2, 1957."
