Army tackling distress deaths

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Army has started implementing measures to curb incidents of distress deaths, which reached record levels last year, Defence Minister A. K. Antony said in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. In order to detect signs of distress early among jawans, 50 junior commissioned officers from the Army Medical Corps have been trained as counsellors in Northern and Eastern Commands, the two theatres where troops are engaged in counter-insurgency operations.
