DIVINE RIDE: Lord Sri Ranganathaswami was carried on Simhavahanam, a vehicle with lions emblem, on the fourth day of Brahmotsavam on Thursday at Nellore.
NELLORE: Grandeur marked the fourth day of Lord Ranganatha Swami Brahmotsavam celebrations as the deity of the lord was carried on a `Simhavahanam' (vehicle with lion's emblem) here on Thursday. `Simhavahanam' denotes command and authority. It is believed that the lord assumed the form of Narasimha, a half human and half lion form, to kill the demon, Hiranyakasipu. To connate this, Lord Sri Ranganatha uses lion as a vehicle. After the procession, the presiding deity was taken in the `Chandraprabha Vahanam', a moon-shaped vehicle, around the streets. It is believed that riding on this vehicle gives a soothing experience to the lord, which, in turn, brings peace to devotees, temple priests say. `Pallaki seva' will be performed on the fifth day of the Brahmotsavam (March 2), as the presiding deity will be taken along the street of the shrine onboard an exquisitely decorated flower bedecked palanquin. Hundreds of devotees will witness the spectacle. This will be followed by the `Hanumantha seva'. Hanuman is the greatest devotee of Lord Rama. It is believed that devotees will be blessed if they catch a glimpse of the lord on `Hanumad vahana.'
