PAYYANNUR: Cochin Port Trust (CPT) rallied magnificently from two sets down to score a remarkable 16-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-13 win over the reigning Super League men's champion BPCL Kochi Refineries in the Group II National volleyball league here on Thursday.
The Refineries men looked in great form in the first two sets and it looked as though they would finish it in straight sets. But S. Vinod had other ideas, as he spearheaded a great fightback by Port Trust. He spiked superbly and made a difference at the net. V.K. Ansar, V.M. Vijesh, Shijo Thomas and captain V. Manu too contributed to make it a memorable victory for Port Trust. That Tom Joseph was not at his best didn't help Kochi Refineries' cause. Earlier, in the women's section, riding on the brilliance of skipper K.J. Shibi, Western Railway beat GKM Foundation (Chennai) 25-20, 25-22, 25-8. Other results: Men: SCR bt ICF (Chennai) 25-22, 25-17, 25-15; BPCL Kochi Refineries bt Indian Bank (Chennai) 23-25, 25-16, 18-25, 25-21, 15-11. Principal Correspondent
