NEW DELHI: Surender Koli, one of the accused in the Nithari serial killings, recorded his confessional statement before a Patiala House court here on Thursday. The statement was also videographed. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau had earlier asked lawyers present in the court to explain to Surender the implications of making a confessional statement before the court. Subsequently Surender made his statement in which he purportedly confessed to having sexually assaulted minor children and killed them. The statement was recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the presence of the ACMM. The recorded evidence will be kept in a sealed cover until the case comes up for trial. On Wednesday, Surender sought written permission from the court to make his confessional statement. As per the court order, Surender was kept in an isolated cell in Jail No. 1 of the Tihar Central Jail as the court did not want him to be pressured or influenced by anybody into making a decision. With the recording of the statement of Surender before a magistrate, the CBI now feels that it has secured the case further as it would not be easy for the accused to retract his statement later. The CBI had also got the statements of three minor girls who reportedly escaped from the house of Moninder Singh Pandher, another accused, in Sector-31 of nearby Noida recorded before a magistrate in a Patiala House court.
