Director appointed

WARANGAL: P. Indrasena Reddy has been appointed Director of Directorate of Admissions of Kakatiya University, Warangal.

Having a long teaching experience of 22 years, Indrasena Reddy wrote one book and published 30 research articles and attended 20 conferences. Earlier, he worked as Additional Controller of Examinations and NSS Programme Officer in the University. - Staff Reporter

Exams postponed

WARANGAL: The I and III year of undergraduate examinations of Kakatiya University scheduled to be held on March 17, 2007, have been postponed due to Legislative Council elections and the same will be held on March 18, according to Controller of Examinations T. Papi Reddy.

ADILABAD: Adilabad Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar on Thursday inspected the local degree college (Men), where the polling booths for elections to Andhra Pradseh Legislative Council (graduates and teachers constituencies) on March 17 along with counting centre for local authorities constituency, have been set up. He placed a Sub-Inspector of Police as

Body found

KARIMNAGAR. A 25-year-old youth was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his house in Buttirajaram Colony of Karimnagar town on Thursday morning. The police said that the Kota Ramulu, who was working as labourer, had slept on the terrace of his house on Wednesday night and was found dead on Thursday morning with strangulation marks. The police suspect that a love affair with a girl in the same locality might be the reason . - Staff Reporter

Motorcyclists beaten

KADAPA: A three-member gang robbed two motorcyclists after tying them up in nearby fields near Anandashramam road in Chapadu mandal around midnight on Wednesday. The gang stopped Chandramohan Reddy and G. Adinarayana Reddy on Mydukur-Chapadu road and severely beat them, according to the Mydukur Police. They snatched away Rs. 2,000, a cell phone and decamped on their motorcycle. -Staff Reporter

Woman electrocuted

ANANTAPUR: Ramadevi (32) was electrocuted at Gorantlapalli village of Nallacheruvu mandal in the district on Wednesday. According to the information reaching here, there were problems in power supply since Tuesday night . The woman suffered severe electric shock when came in contact with a switchboard. The CPDCL officials did not rectify the problem even after complaints of the villagers. -Staff Reporter

KADAPA: New scientific technologies should be developed for sustainable agriculture in drought-prone areas, Vice-Chancellor of Yogi Vemana University A. Ramachandra Reddy said on Thursday. Kabadi championship

CHITTOOR: National Kabadi Federation president J. S. Gehlot has said that steps are being taken to include kabadi in the Olympics. The 54th National Senior Kabadi for Men and Women Championship was inaugurated by Adikesavulu, MP, here on Wednesday . Participating as the chief guest, J. S. Gehlot said that the support of 50 countries were necessary to include the game in the Olympics. Action against colleges

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Private Engineering Colleges Non-teaching Staff Federation has appealed to the AICTE seeking action against two institutions in Markapuram and Nandyal for not adhering to AICTE norms, according to C. Bhagat Simha, secretary-general. It urged the AICTE to conduct inspections on the institutions. - Special Correspondent

SI convicted

KHAMMAM: K. Vijay Babu, SI, was convicted in two separate cases by First Additional District Sessions Judge Venkata Pratap on Thursday for abetting ganja cultivation in Pinapaka mandal. The court sentenced the SI for four years in each case. Four farmers were sentenced for four years in one case and two farmers in another case. - Staff Reporter

Warrant executed

ADILABAD: A 10-year-old non-bailable warrant was executed on Thursday by the police here when Chinnaswamy Vishwanath of Bellampally was arrested and sent for remand. Vishwanath was deemed to be absconding since January 29, 1997. He had contested from the Adilabad Lok Sabha constituency in 1996 as an Independent but failed to submit poll expenditure details, for which a case was registered. - Staf Reporter

HYDERABAD: The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Kisan Morcha will hold a `Chalo Assembly' rally on March 26 to pressure the Government to solve the problems of farmers. Candidates' protest

HYDERABAD: Candidates who appeared for the Group II examination in 2004 on Thursday staged a demonstration at the APPSC office here demanding immediate publication of the results. Leaders of the Group II Unemployed Struggle Committee said they would be forced to launch a State-wide agitation if interests of candidates were not protected. - Special Correspondent

Honorarium hiked

HYDERABAD: The Government has increased honorarium for vidya volunteers of primary and upper primary schools from Rs.1,000 to Rs.1,500. The additional expenditure because of the decision will be Rs.25.38 crores. There are is 50,763 vidya volunteers in the State. - Special Correspondent

Birla science prize

HYDERABAD: B.M. Birla Science Centre has invited nominations for B.M. Birla science prize in mathematics and physics for 2006. The prize, worth Rs.1 lakh in each subject, is given for outstanding original contributions by a scientist, not more than 40 years on December 31, 2006. Nominations should be sent to B.G.
