Promises remedial action in case of irregularities

  • School committees constituted through well-laid out norms
  • Compulsory rural service for medical graduates mooted

HYDERABAD: School Education Minister N. Rajyalakshmi on Thursday rejected the Telugu Desam charge that Congress workers were being nominated to school management committees.

She maintained that village-level committee was headed by the sarpanch, irrespective of his/her political affiliations. The Government had decided to appoint committees because teachers and parents opposed elections as they were vitiating the atmosphere. A ward member and parents of students are nominated through a well laid-out procedural guidelines and it was not possible to appoint anyone else. The Minister assured that remedial action would be taken, in case of lapses. Leader of Opposition N.Chandrababu Naidu accused the Government of ruining primary education. He alleged that the nomination system was aimed at entrusting works worth Rs. 500 crore which the State would receive under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, to Congress activists.

    Rural medical service

Health Minister K. Rosaiah told R. Suryaprakasa Rao (Congress) that the Government was exploring various options to make rural service mandatory for MBBS graduates.

It was considering whether a `pucca' certificate could be issued only after they served two years in rural areas. A provisional certificate would be given till then. The issue was discussed with the Medical Council of India and Union Health Ministry which was also considering rural service mandatory.
