HUBLI: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has announced that the State Government will completely ban the sale of arrack and single digit lottery from the next financial year. He was speaking at a public function after inaugurating several developmental projects and laying the foundation stone for new projects at Gajendraghad in Ron Taluk of Gadag district on Thursday. The Chief Minister said the coalition Government had decided to waive farmers' loans and there was no question of withdrawing the decision. However, he appealed to farmers to be patient and wait for the final order to be issued. The Chief Minister asked officials to visit villages once in a week and take steps to solve the problems of people in rural areas. He warned them of strict action if they failed to discharge their duties promptly.
Drinking water
Mr. Kumaraswamy said a Rs. 48-crore proposal to provide drinking water to Gajendraghad, Naregal and ten surrounding villages was before the Government and promised that it would be placed before the next Cabinet meeting for approval. Tourism Minister B. Sriramulu, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Karjol, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar and North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation Chairman Ashok Katwe addressed the meeting and listed out the various government schemes introduced for the benefit of the public. Ron MLA Kalakappa Bandi welcomed the gathering and placed before Kumaraswamy a list of the problems being faced by the people of his constituency. Kustagi MLA Doddanagouda, Zilla Panchayat president Shashidhar Koravi, vice-president Pushpa Koravanavar, Deputy Commissioner G.M. Dhananjaya and others were present in the programme which was held in the presence of Tontada Siddhalinga Swamiji of Gadag.
