Chitralekha murder case posted to May 29

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The First Fast-Track Sessions Court on Thursday posted the hearing of the Chitralekha Urs murder case to May 29, giving time for the new special public prosecutor to familiarise himself with the case.

The judge A.R. Deshpande passed the order following a request by the new prosecutor, V.K. Patil. Mr. Patil was appointed as the special public prosecutor in addition to K. Janardhan, who met with an accident recently. On a request by Mr. Janardhan that he be relieved from the case, the Government issued a notification appointing Mr. Janardhan and Mr. Patil special public prosecutors. The two will be handling the Pratibha murder case too.

Producing a copy of the notification before the judge, Mr. Patil said he had been appointed to continue with the hearing during Mr. Janardhan's absence. He sought a month's time to go through the case. The judge ordered that hearings would be held between May 29 and June 16.
