`Don't force yoga on college students'

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Some Christian leaders, including Father Ambrose Pinto, principal, St. Joseph's College, have objected to a proposal by the State's Inter-University Board to introduce yoga and meditation in colleges from the next academic year.

Participating in a meeting with members of the National Commission for Minorities here on Thursday, Fr. Pinto termed the step a move to "saffronise education." He argued that colleges should not be forced to implement such measures.

He also appealed to the commission to depute special officers as monitors to prevent the State Government from initiating any anti-minority measure or saffronising education in schools and colleges.
