GULBARGA: The State Government has granted 4,016 more bicycles for distribution among boys studying in standard 8 of Government and aided schools in the education districts of Gulbarga, Yadgir, Bidar, Bellary, Koppal and Raichur falling under the Gulbarga Revenue division.
Notification issued
Official sources said here on Thursday that a notification in this regard has been issued and the bicycles have started arriving in the district headquarters for students from Below Poverty Line families. As per the original decision, the Government had provided 44,385 bicycles to be distributed to the students as against the demand of 49,140 sought by the authorities of the education department in these districts. The Government has now given another 4,016 bicycles to the districts coming under the Gulbarga Revenue division taking the total number of bicycles given so far to 48,401 considering the shortfall in the distribution of the bicycles.
Distributed
Sources said that the 80 per cent of the bicycles allotted to these districts have already been distributed to the students and the distribution of the remaining 20 per cent of the bicycles would be completed shortly. Gulbarga, which had demanded 10,170 bicycles, originally was allotted 9,369 bicycles in the first phase and now another 648 bicycles have been given.
Other districts
Bellary, which had sought 9,518 bicycles, was originally allotted 8,717 bicycles, and the Government has now given another 658 bicycles. Bidar has now been given another 677 bicycles adding to the 7,485 bicycles already given. Sources said Yadgir has been given 719 bicycles now adding to the 4,639 bicycles already given. As against the original demand of 7,433 bicycles by Raichur, the Government in the first phase had given 6,683 bicycles and now another 638 bicycles has been given. Similarly Koppal was given 7,492 bicycles in the first phase as against the demand for 8,293 bicycles and now the Government has added another 676 bicycles.
