THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government HSS Pookottumpadam, Wandoor educational district, Malappuram, has been given the Education Minister's award for the best computer lab (among government schools) for the year 2005-06. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh and a trophy. These and the other IT awards of the Education Minister were announced by Minister for Education M.A. Baby at a press conference here on Thursday. In the aided school category, the award for the best computer lab went to Mar Basil HSS, Kothamangalam. Ten Government schools and 10 aided schools have also been given district-level awards for the best computer lab. The Irinjalakuda educational district won the award for the best educational district in IT initiatives. V.R. Vishnu of the GHSS Kaniyambetta, Wayanad, won the award for the best IT project. The school will receive a trophy and Rs. 10,000. Eight district-level awards have been announced for the best IT project. Each of these schools will get Rs. 1,000 and a trophy. These awards, decided by an 11-member committee chaired by the Director of Public Instruction (DPI), will be given away in March 2007.
