30 injured in attack

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: About 30 persons were injured when a large number of villagers attacked the students and staff of a college at Brajarajnagar town in Jharsuguda district on Wednesday evening.

The villagers, numbering about 300, attacked the students of Bible College and ransacked the college premises. It was alleged that the students had indulged in eve-teasing in the nearby village earlier in the day.

The college, with student strength of nearly 300, is run by the Believers' Church.

Of the injured, eight with serious injuries were admitted to the Government hospital at the district headquarter town of Jharsuguda. Of them five were said to be villagers and three students, police said.

Senior administration officials and police visited the spot to take stock of the situation. Two platoons of policemen were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident in the locality.

The Church authorities, however, have denied that the students had indulged in eve-teasing.
