CHANDIGARH: Incessant rainfall at most places of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh led to plummetting of the mercury in the region by about two degrees with Amritsar being the coldest place in the plains on Thursday, recording a low of 7 degree Celsius. The widespread rains were a result of western disturbances and low pressure area that developed over west Rajasthan, a Met office spokesman said here on Thursday.
Normal life
Chandigarh recorded the maximum of 90.2 mm of rainfall in the State, which threw normal life out of gear at some places. The rain, which started late in the night, continued till morning. Among other places, Ambala experienced 72.8 mm of rains, Patiala 24.3 mm, Hisar and Ludhiana 5.2 mm and Karnal 1.4 mm. The Met office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Punjab by today. In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Amritsar was the coldest with a low of 7 degree Celsius, one degree below normal. While Ludhiana recorded a low of 9.7 degree Celsius, the minimum temperature at Ambala was 10.6 degree C.
Temperature
The low was 13.5 degree C at Narnaul, 13.4 degree C at Karnal and 12 degree C at Patiala. According to the Met Department of Adampur Air Force station, the minimum temperature was recorded as 9.6 degree C at Pathankot, 10.6 degree C at Halwara, 10 degree C at Jammu and 2 degree Celsius at Srinagar.- PTI
