Staff Reporter

Consultants to be hired for the project

  • The new plan will form the basis for the Regional Rapid Transit System
  • Neighbouring towns in Haryana and U.P. to be connected to Delhi

NEW DELHI: The National Capital Region Planning Board has decided to hire consultants to give a fillip to the Integrated Transportation Plan for the National Capital Region. The Board will award a consultancy study on "Integrated Transportation Plan for National Capital Region" that will form the basis for the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project.

The RRTS project, aimed at connecting the Capital with the neighbouring towns in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, is expected to be taken up during the 11th Plan.

In the run-up to the Commonwealth Games, focus has also shifted to speeding up work on the Integrated Rail-cum-Bus Transit (IRBT) system that will have interface with the Metro Rail and several bus routes to facilitate better connectivity of NCR towns.

The IRBT is a part of the RRTS, which is expected to integrate and connect the NCR region.

To improve connectivity within NCR, a commuter rail system --IRBT -- that constitutes Phase-I of RRTS for NCR has been proposed and the Planning Commission has set up a task force under the chairmanship of Secretary, Urban Development.
