CHENNAI: Minister for Information Parithi Ilamvazhuthi on Thursday emphasised the need for creating awareness among the public about the schemes the State Government was implementing, "to make Tamil Nadu number one among the States."

Inaugurating a 10-day multimedia exhibition conducted by the Information and Public Relations department here, he said the conduct of such exhibitions in busy areas would enable authorities to reach out to those who were left out. A large number people who visited the exhibitions could know about the welfare schemes aimed at improving the socio-economic condition of the people.

Pat for officials

Mr. Ilamvazhuthi commended the officials in the districts for their efforts to issue house site pattas to families residing on government poramboke land for over 10 years.

Collector R. Jaya said as women self-help groups had realised that income generation schemes had transformed their life remarkably, other sections should also avail themselves of the benefits offered through different schemes.

District Revenue Officer M. Murthy said steps had been taken to issue house site pattas by June-end to all eligible beneficiaries who had been residing in houses constructed on government poramboke land.

Such pattas had not been issued so far even to those who had occupied the poramboke land for over four decades.

Deputy Director (Art and Culture) E. Tiruvalluvan said the Government had been implementing schemes to promote women's welfare.
