Seminar on VAT

CHENNAI : A two-day national seminar on Value Added Tax will be held at The New College on March 7 and 8.

The VAT, a latest initiative introduced by the Centre, is expected to rationalise the sales tax structure. It would also facilitate a smooth integration of the national economy with the global economy. The postgraduate Department of Commerce has proposed to conduct the seminar which will discuss themes including VAT — the global experience, the road to VAT — the Central and State legislations, Tamil Nadu VAT — future in store, said college secretary and correspondent H. M. Shamsudeen here on Monday.

Commercial Taxes Minister S. N. M. Ubayadullah would inaugurate the seminar. Joint Commissioner, VAT Cell, G. Shanmugam, would deliver the keynote address.
