Mayawati launches poll campaign

Special Correspondent

LUCKNOW: Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati on Thursday alleged that she was dragged into the Taj Corridor and the disproportionate assets cases because she refused to compromise on the principles and policies of her party.

Launching the BSP's poll campaign for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections here, she hit out against the Samajwadi Party, the BJP and the Congress for launching a "political conspiracy" against her. She dared the Congress-led UPA Government to send her to jail in the disproportionate assets case, saying whenever she was targeted the BSP emerged stronger.

Ms. Mayawati rejected her opponents' allegations that she owned hotels, farmhouses and hospitals in India and abroad. If they were proved true she would take political "sanyas," she said.
