RTC responds to complaints

Lack of bus stops at Secunderabad, Nampally stations

  • Zonal Manager makes surprise visit
  • Route 26, 49 and 5 shifted

HYDERABAD: With complaints pouring in over the lack of bus facilities at the Bhoiguda side of the Secunderabad railway station and also at the Nampally station, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) officials have reviewed the situation.

APSRTC Hyderabad Zonal Manager Kotha Sanjeeva Reddy, who made a surprise visit to the Secunderabad station to inspect the facilities, said several people were found walking with their luggage all the way from the railway platform up to Bhoiguda Crossroads and Chilkalguda Crossroads.

"The reason they gave was that autorickshaws are demanding more than what they should and to catch a bus, they had to walk that far. Many buses are not allowed up to the bus shelter constructed on the Bhoiguda side, which compounds their problems," an RTC official pointed out.

    Phone-in programme

"In fact, during the phone-in programme on February 25, there were lot of complaints on the lack of facilities at the Secunderabad station -- the bus stops being far away and the shifting of Route 26, 49 and 5 from the station.

So, we have decided to approach the Chief Minister and the Railway Ministry to look into the need for allowing buses at the Station area, to permit buses to go on the Bhoiguda side and also near the Nampally station," Mr. Sanjeeva Reddy said.

At the Nampally station, it was also felt necessary to provide buses nearer to the station since the existing bus stop was on the main road and sometimes police were not allowing the buses to stop even there, he said.
